Who needs a visa?
- Visa required: foreign citizens, including citizens of Turkmenistan.
- Visa not required: citizens of CIS countries, as well as Abkhazia, Georgia, and South Ossetia.
Where and how to obtain a visa?
- A visa is issued at the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the student’s country of citizenship/residence.
- Basis for the visa: an official invitation.

- Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Minobrnauki): for students studying under the scholarship of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Required documents for obtaining an invitation
- Through Minobrnauki: no documents required.
Special requirements for minors (under 18 years old)
- When submitting documents, the presence of a legal representative (parent or guardian) is required.
- Required documents:
- Birth certificate,
- Parent’s passport with a note about the child,
- Guardianship documents (if applicable).
