Who needs a visa?

Visa required:
Foreign citizens, including citizens of Turkmenistan.
Visa not required:
Citizens of CIS countries, as well as Abkhazia, Georgia, and South Ossetia.

Where and how to obtain a visa?

A visa is issued at the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the student’s country of citizenship/residence.
Basis for the visa: an official invitation.

Application procedure depending on the type of study

Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Minobrnauki)
– For students under the quota of the Government of the Russian Federation.
University
– For other categories of students.

Required documents for obtaining an invitation

From the Ministry of Education and Science:
There are no requirements
Through the University:
  1. Scanned copy of the international passport (all pages)
  2. Educational document (for postgraduate and residency applicants)

Special requirements for minors (under 18 years old)

Legal representative
When submitting documents, the presence of a legal representative (parent or guardian) is required.
Required documents:
  1. Birth certificate,
  2. Parent’s passport with a note about the child,
  3. Guardianship documents (if applicable).
